Character Design, Revisisted

"Sejuani's lightly-armored, skin-flaunting, fleshy apparel didn't mesh with the idea of a dominating, ice warrior. Now heavily armored atop Bristle, this visual rework clearly conveys the core of our concept for the champion. She's powerful, capable of conquering the Freljord and leading the Winter's Claw to victory." (src)

Yeah, I feel pretty good about this.

Two additional reminders of how to do good character design:

It's that easy.

  1. I really like that picture showing practical male-female outfits. Aside from being more practical, it also shows that said outfits can be look great from an aesthetic point of view (I particularly like the sorcerer outfits).

Most of them look more fit for colder climates, though. I'd love to see one of those for a host of equivalent roles in warmer climates. My guess is that aside from the knight, bandit, and cleric roles, you'd see a lot looser, lighter fabrics.

    1. Oh, most definitely. But in general it's more about fairness and wearing what makes sense - it's fine for the Deprived to be "scantily clad" because (a) male and female are basically the same and (b) their physiques look like they make sense instead of the man being muscular and the woman being curvy and busty.

  2. She's still wearing boob-plates though. But I guess it's the right direction?

    1. They're honestly about as understated as they can get - yeah it's still not "great" but I don't expect absolute realism from the LoL people, just a basic understanding of goddamn character design

  4. I always find that female character in practical outfit a lot more appealing that those in scantily clad one since I don't have to feel any weirdness or dissonance when I'm played it. Why are nerds want to see navel and boobs in their games? They could easily search for porn if they want to satisfy their carnal desire.

  5. I am wondering if you can do an analysis of Wreck-It-Ralph. I am interested in the character design and how the characters dress for utility.
